Flickr photos backup utilities
I’ve recently been looking to organize and backup my photo libraries from Flickr. Unfortunately, Flickr has no built-in batch downloading of photos. But, I did come across several great free utilities that do allow for batch downloading of photos from your Flickr account.
- FlickrDown [PC]
- FlickrBackup [Mac]
- FlickrEdit [Mac]
Since FlickrDown was the first utility I came across, I gave it a try and it worked like a charm on my home PC. I haven’t yet tried the Mac utilities but the next time I backup from Flickr, I’ll definitely give them a try.
Anyone come across any other Flickr photo utilities worth sharing? I’d love to continue building my collection of Flickr utilities.
experimenting with Ustream
I’m continuing to experiment with Ustream.tv and I plan to attempt to stream my workshop entitled, Redesigning Course Materials for Online Delivery that I’ll be offering on Wednesday, 11/28 from 10:00am-11:30am CDT. For anyone who wants to take a peek, it’ll be streaming here: http://ustream.tv/channel/facdevprograms
I plan to attempt recording the session and will make the link to the archive available here once available. At this point, I still haven’t learned how to embed a Ustream video into a WordPress blog. I’m hoping there’s a plugin somewhere that I just haven’t stumbled across yet.Â
If anyone happens to know of a plugin for WordPress to embed Ustream videos, kindly send my way!Â
Miro - free, open source internet tv and video player
I just stumbled across a free, open source internet tv and video player called “Miro”. Details at http://www.getmiro.com
I’m really impressed with the list of features and head-to-head comparison of Miro to Joost. Miro boasts some great features…no DRM, access to any publisher with video RSS feeds, anyone can create a content guide, and that it uses open standards like RSS to facilitate syndication and aggregation.
All in all…I’d say, take Miro for a spin! I am.

Tumblelogs with Tumblr

Tumblelogs are like blogs with less fuss. Tumblr is your friendly and free tool for creating tumblelogs. I recently came across Tumblr and it appears to be a great, easy-to-setup blogging solution for those looking for a very basic and easy blog.
A tumblelog isn’t a true blog in that readers can not comment on postings. Also, the features available as far as menu customization and themes are very limited. This service is nothing fancy, but it works.
Is anyone already using Tumblr? What do you like or dislike about it? I’m personally giving Tumblr a try at http://jrhode.tumblr.com. So far, I don’t think I would use this for blogging but rather just as a place to just post misc. items that I want to keep track of but I can’t easily bookmark…like quotes I’ve come across. I’d love to hear how others might consider using a stripped-down blogging tool like Tumblr.
